Bidi Vapor started its own recycling program to help solve the increasing volume of global electronic waste.

The increasing number of electronic waste produced is becoming a global problem. The figures are staggering.

In 2019, the world generated 53.6 million metric tonnes (Mt) of electronic waste, according to UN’s Global Waste Monitor 2020, and only 17.4% of it was recycled. Such waste will reportedly reach 74 million mt tons by 2030, almost doubling electronic waste in just 16 years.

The Negative Effects of Electronic Waste

Electronics contain toxic substances that could potentially harm animals, humans, and the global environment. When it is thrown into a landfill, toxins leach into the soil and it could be harmful to the trees and plants that are growing from it. As it damages the human food supply, this could cause health problems and complications.

Aside from contributing to land pollution, electronic waste also contaminates water bodies. When heavy metals from electronics such as lithium, lead, and barium reach groundwater, it simply makes its way to ponds, streams, rivers, and lakes. This could harm animals and communities that rely on these channels of water for their nourishment.

When electronic waste is burned, hydrocarbons are being released into the atmosphere which pollutes the air that humans and animals breathe. Hydrocarbons also contribute to the greenhouse gas effect which is one of the main causes of global warming.

The negative effects of electronic waste in order to save the quality of our land, water, and air. Practicing proper disposal of electronic waste can help in reducing its harmful effects on the environment.

Bidi Vapor’s Initiative

Aware that its products could contribute to the mounting problem, Bidi Vapor, manufacturer of the premium BIDI®️ Stick, has initiated its own recycling program called the BIDI®️ Cares.

With the BIDI®️ Cares program, adult consumers are encouraged to send in their used BIDI®️ Sticks to our recycling facilities. Bidi Vapor believes that this recycling program helps in minimizing the additional production of electronic waste that adversely impacts the environment.

Why did the BIDI® Cares program have a temporary shutdown?

However, last December 2020, Bidi Vapor encountered a setback when the PACT Act was amended. The PACT Act prohibits the US Postal Service (UPS) from shipping both tobacco and cannabis vapor products. The legislation also modifies the original definition of “cigarette” to include Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS). The term “ENDS” is defined very broadly to include all vaping products, liquids, components, and accessories, whether they contain nicotine or not.

To simply understand the Act, ENDS products can no longer be shipped by mail.

With the PACT Act, vaping manufacturers had a challenging time coming up with solutions that would allow them to continue their shipping operations. Major couriers such as UPS, FedEx, and DHL have also declared that they will no longer ship out ENDS Products, in compliance with the PACT Act.

Bidi Vapor also supports the PACT Act which chiefly addresses the alarming issue of youth access to vaping products. In compliance with the law, the company had to postpone the operations of the BIDI®️ Cares recycling program.

Reactivation of the BIDI® Cares Program

Last June 2021, the United States Postal Service (USPS) released exceptions to the ban. It announced that disposable ENDS products are excluded from the vape mail ban. Bidi Vapor welcomed the development and was glad to share this announcement with its adult consumers as they could start sending their used BIDI® Sticks again to our recycling facility.

To help bolster the program and encourage more participants, Bidi Vapor has improved its recycling process. Recyclers will receive up to a $15.99 rebate coupon for every ten (10) BIDI®️ Sticks that they send in.

Here is how you can participate:

  1. Fill out the recycling form. After sending the form, you will receive a return label to send your used BIDI®️ Sticks.
  2. After sending in the used BIDI®️ Sticks, these will be checked in our recycling facility.
Once these are verified, you will receive an official email with the rebate coupon. You can scan the receipts using the link that is provided in the email.
  3. Adult consumers can use the rebate coupon to purchase BIDI®️ Sticks in any retail store. The rebate will be credited to their VENMO/Paypal account after 2-3 days.

While adult consumers get to save money on their next purchase, they have already taken their step in helping reduce the global pollution problem of increasing electronic waste.

Recycle with BIDI®️ Cares

Just by practicing responsible and proper disposal, you are already doing your part in helping to reduce the number of electronic waste.

It is worth noting that Bidi Vapor used recyclable and reusable components to manufacture the BIDI®️ Stick to avoid stressing the environment further. This way, it helps reduce its carbon footprint and help protect the environment.
